Menstrual Cycle And Period Problems That You Should Be Aware Of

A woman's body is very peculiar. Although she is physically not so strong, she often bears more pains and problems than a man. One such "ordeal" is her monthly menstrual cycle and period problems, that every woman goes through.

For many teens it can be a first step to womanhood but at the same time it can also lead to much confusion. Especially when they do not know about the problem one has to face while going through this phase. So here are few menstrual problems that most women face. This will not only increase your knowledge but would also help you deal with and eliminate the problems associated with menstruation.

The first problem is Premenstrual Syndrome. This syndrome begins around 7 days prior to the starting of the periods. The symptoms can be physical as well as emotional. Some of the common ones are: acne, fatigue, headaches, backaches, diarrhea, depression or feeling blue, difficulty in concentrating, difficulty in handling stress, bloating, sore breasts, constipation, food cravings and irritability. A woman can have one, two or many of the symptoms and it is not necessary also that a woman will have these symptoms at all.

The second problem that most women face during menstruation is cramps. This is because of prostaglandin, a kind of chemical in the body that develops during menstruation period. They cause the soft muscles around the uterus to contract and thus causing cramps around the abdomen. These cramps can be dull as well as severe cramps depending on the person.

There are some menstrual problems that also need special attention like Amenorrhea, Menorrhagia, and Dysmenorrhea.

Amenorrhea is the absence of periods in a woman. Girls who do not have periods till the age of 16 or girls who have attained puberty but did not have periods for at least 3 years fall in this category. The main cause of this disorder is hormonal imbalance. Besides other causes like improper diet, stress, thyroid conditions, anorexia, ovarian cysts can also cause Amenorrhea.

After this comes Menorrhagia. Often girls have heavy periods on one day and lighter on other day. But if a girl's sanitary napkin or pad has to be changed after every 1 hour then she suffers from Menorrhagia. Here girls have extremely heavy and prolonged periods. The main cause of this condition is an imbalance in the levels of progesterone and estrogen in the body.

Finally another serious menstrual problem for a woman is Dysmenorrhea. In this condition the periods are extremely painful. Thus every activity of a woman gets restricted. She can neither sleep, nor study or in other words cannot concentrate on anything. This condition is also caused by hormones like prostaglandin and also by some physical conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids or polyps in the uterus, or by pelvic inflammatory disease.

These kinds of serious menstrual problems need the attention of the doctor at the earliest.
